Computer Science Education Week: 2010
Here are the responses SIGCSE received in 2010 (with dead/outdated links removed). We hope this list encourages even greater participation and provides ideas for everyone to build upon.
- Lakehead University - Preview Day, Robots and Mazes.
- Drexel University - Lectures, Games, Parties and Movies.
- Bradley University - We're facilitating workshops (programming and robotics) for high school students; We're hosting a gaming party for high school students (and BU students).
- Villanova University - Hosting visitors, sharing information, project demonstration party and renumbering rooms in binary.
- The CAITE (Commonwealth Alliance for Information Technology Education) page provides a list of activities around the state of Massachusetts.
- University of Washington Bothell - Computing & Software Systems Cooperative Education Colloquium: posters and presentations of students' work in the community.
- The CACS/AIC (Canadian Association of Computer Science / Association d'Informatique Canadienne) page links to dozens of departments across Canada that are actively involved, with activities ranging from a full-day computer science fair for high school students to workshops for middle-schools students to public laboratory tours.
- Haverford College - Poster session of senior work and interesting course projects, plus an end of the term party in the lab (debugging projects).
- Colorado School of Mines - At a CS Ed Week celebration faculty members will present brief descriptions of their current research interests and encourage students to get involved. Student representatives from ACM and ACM-W chapters and Linux Users Group will discuss upcoming events and recruit new members.
- University of Toronto Mississauga and University of Toronto St George - Motivated grade 9 Math students are invited to come with their teachers to campus to explore the exciting field of Computer Science. The day will include a large group session where university faculty will demonstrate some of the connections between the fields of mathematics and computer science. Students will also attend small-group workshops where they can explore CS topics of their choice.
- Calvin College - Holding an all-day Grace Hopper birthday celebration. Inviting all majors, the students in service courses, and the faculty in the division to come and have a piece of cake in her honor.
- University of Calgary - Providing local high school teachers with a Speaker's Bureau and hosting tours and lectures on campus.
- The TCNJ IJIMS (College of New Jersey Interactive Journalism Institute for Middle School) is hosting a Saturday morning event on December 4 to launch Computer Science Education Week. Through "FILM" the Fisher Interactive LEarning Magazine, Fisher Middle School students and teachers will demonstrate their online magazine that includes interactive graphics, digital media, procedural animation, video and text-based journalism. The by-invitation event to Ewing Schools and TCNJ community, and Mercer County officials will occur in the Art and Interactive Multimedia Building at The College of New Jersey from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM.
- Western New England College - Having senior presentations in the student center, plus ACM student group is hoping to host some events.
- The University of Texas Pan American Department of Computer Science Mentoring Program - Hosting a special event on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, from 12 to 1 PM in Engineering 1.300 (Auditorium), UTPA, Edinburg, Texas. The event will feature a student panel of senior Computer Science and Computer Engineering students, who will lead an informal discussion on career pathways in computing related fields. Join us for the panel discussion and FREE pizza and soda!
